Entertaining Possibilities

When we come into existence, birth, we re-experience otherness/separateness. And from that experience arises the question - am I whole, am I connected, am I adequate, am I enough, am I Worthy? This is the birthplace, the seed of ego, the perception of separateness. Around this perception / question / experience / and in the context of family of origin ego is constructed.

FOO provides both the genetic underpinning and the learned experience that constructs the ego. Every person has this experience. Birth occurs for everyone. The specific genetic underpinning and individual experiences are different for every person. We are both universal and totally unique at the same time. The universal expresses itself through each individual, and we experience the unique not the universal.

The experience of separateness in such a big world is too much to even imagine. The question of am I enough, am I worthy, or more specifically the feeling of inadequacy or unworthiness is intolerable.

The genetic underpinning combined with experience forms a separate shell identity that protects us from feeling the only experience that we cannot tolerate, unworthiness. Tara Brach calls it the myth of unworthiness. And it is just that, a misperception. Born out of the evolution of consciousness, humans are the only beings we know of that can self-reference, think about ourselves. Ego is a misperception born from the ability to self-reference, perceive separateness.

Transcend your ego! Move beyond your conditioned separateness! That’s all I’m asking you to do! Doesn’t that sound like fun?
